«Let's start with the red wines…
There is AOC Bergerac red :
Bergerac reds are fruity and supple. They flatter the palate. They are typically for drinking young and can be a good everyday wine.
Then, Côtes de Bergerac red:
Côtes de Bergerac reds are produced under very strict and rigourous rules. They are full bodied and powerful wines with excellent aging potential.
Pécharmant:
The very distinctive flavour of Pécharmant, an appellation uniquely for red wine, is its soil that contains a deep layer of clay and ironstone. This is a charming, powerful wine with an intense aroma.
Finally, the youngest of the AOCs of Bergerac, the AOC Montravel:
Montravel is a sumptuous red wine with very strict production conditions.
My food pairing tips :
The most full bodied red wines of Bergerac
- red meat, ribs, steaks, duck breast, confit of duck, foie gras but also steak tartare and chocolate!
The young and fruity wines
- tabbouleh, gourmet sandwiches (feta, sundried tomatoes, eggplant caviar), grilled foods and poultry, quiche, pizza, vegetable flan, sausage, stir-fried pasta, daily specials, … All of these wines are delicious with cheese.
